OFF TO A RUNNING START

Thus far we have seen some awesome competition as week one of the lacrosse season draws to a close.  All venues have come online.  Some last minute schedule changes were required due to scheduling conflicts at East End Arena and the Maples facilities but we got through those challenges.  That reminds me that you should check the website often to verify your schedule and also see the frequent updates to the news, standings and scores pages!

Speaking of facilities, are you lost?  Not sure where that arena is?  Visit the WMLA Facilities page to see detailed maps and even satellite images of the venues we play at.  To use this function; from the Facilities Page click on the hyperlink for the facility you are interested in and a Google Map or satellite image will be displayed.  On the top right corner of that page you can select between Map and Satellite images.  Use the zoom function on the left hand side of the page to zoom in or out, not exactly where you want to be?  Click and drag on the map or image to move the image around. Here is an example of the satellite image for Morse Place CC. Now that you know where the arena is, type in your home address on the address bar and see if you need a new roof or not!  Hope you enjoy this leading edge feature.

This year the minor officials (time keepers and 30 second clock operators) are responsible for calling in the game scores following each game.  We are hopeful this will enable us to keep our scores and standings as real time current as possible.

Speaking of officials, Zero tolerance means just that, we have no tolerance for abuse of officials.  It is important to remember that most of our officials are young men and women who play the game, are required to attend referee or timekeeping clinics annually and therefore are our experts.  While on the floor they cannot see the entire floor or every player, they may not start or stop the clock fast or slow enough for your liking and from time to time they do make an error.  But they are the ones running the game, think very carefully about what advice you are going to shout out and if it's not words of encouragement, then DON'T SAY IT.  We at the WMLA want you to enjoy watching the game or coaching your team but please leave the officiating to the referees and timekeepers.

We have played 61games from last Friday through Thursday at 8 different venues.  The standings and scores are up to date on all but 2 of the games.  Our objective is to provide current scores and standings as of the morning after the games.  It is possible if all the minor officials are diligent at phoning in their scores.
